FTA Files, sometime refered to as dish files are the files used by your FTA Loader Software to load on your FTA Receiver. Once you load an FTA File to your receiver you can then use your FTA Receiver to watch FTA Satellite TV. Basically, FTA files work like this: Your FTA receiver needs keys to be entered into it to keep it updated with actually satellites in space. Neither of the two (free to air & free to view) can be conisdered as pay-TV. PayTV is a television sercive which is paid for such as PPV (pay per view). These broadcasts are encrypted which means they are NOT FTA. Most people call these services “Satellite Television”. FTA (free to air) basically means what it stands for which is FTA television you don’t need to pay for. Here in North America there are many different competing saltellite companies. In the early Satellite TV days these companies would use the Ku-Band Satellties to broadcast their signals. Some FTA Receivers were around when Ku-Band was. But nowadays most of the satellite companies are using the standard DVB.
FTA is a more recent innovation in the satellite TV world. Meaning Free to Air, the term refers to using an FTA receiver to watch thousands of satellite TV channels for completely free. All you need to get started is a free to air receiver (Pansat, Coolsat, Conaxsat, and many other greats brand names) and a satellite dish within the specs required by the satellite you wish to point at. Most satellites only require a standard DTV compliant dish which is easily found at any satellite TV or electronics store.
When you have both hardware pieces required you can start with pointing your dish. In order to complete this you will need to have a coaxial cable running from where you have the dish and making its way to the FTA receiver which should also be connected to you television. This job can be one of the most tedious when installing your FTA setup. You may want to get someone experienced with running wires and climbing ladders (dish is usually mounted on roof). Pointing the dish is not very difficult.

FTA Keys are just a series of numbers and letters which correspond to the remote control of your FTA Receiver. Shut off auto roll and put in today’s keys. If it goes black again…check for newer keys to manually enter.
A character can be a number or a letter, and 2 of them together = hex pair
There are 32 Characters found in a Key and they are split into 16 hex pairs.
Those 16 hex pairs are divided into 2 rows with 8 hex pairs in each.
Hence each key, like Key 00 and key 01 has a string of 2 rows with 8 hex pairs in each.
Use remote key pad to enter your numbers.
• Most FTA’s use the old N1 key spots in firmware, So they split the 16 byte key into two 8 byte keys.
• These aren’t accurate as Key00 and Key01 but rather are half’s of the active key
Coolsat Slot 10 and 11 are for Idea Key 0 and Slot 20 and 21 are for Idea Key 1
Pansat key 00 for Idea Key 0 and Key 01 for Idea key 1
Viewsat line 08 and 09 for Idea Key 0 and lines 88 and 89 for Idea key 1
For Receivers with only two Key Slots, Enter ACTIVE Idea Key into 00 and 01
D!sh & other providers can swap back and forth from one key to the other. If one does not work…try the other
D!sh & other providers also, and sometimes WILL run both keys active where some channels such as porn would work with one key, and the other channels with the other active key
